About This Place

Located in the heart of Hilo, Ling's Chop Suey House offers a warm and authentic Cantonese dining experience that stands out in Hawaii’s bustling culinary scene. This beloved restaurant invites you to savor the rich, comforting flavors of traditional Chinese cuisine in a laid-back, peaceful atmosphere where every meal feels like a special occasion.

The menu is a treasure trove of Cantonese classics that excite the palate with bold yet balanced flavors. Highlights like the Chinese Roast Pork deliver tender, savory slices boasting a perfect caramelized glaze, while the Mongolian Beef is a symphony of tender meat enveloped in a luscious, slightly sweet sauce that dances on the tongue. For those craving crispy textures, the Crispy Chicken With Oyster Sauce and Crispy Canton Chicken are must-tries—golden, crunchy chicken paired with flavorful, silky sauces that offer a delightful contrast and keep you coming back for more.

Diners can also delight in irresistible special plates that creatively pair dishes to suit every craving: from Mongolian Chicken alongside any crispy chicken, to indulgent combinations like Char Sui & Crispy Roast Pork or even Shrimp Fritter with crispy chicken. Each dish arrives generously portioned, promising a satisfying meal whether you’re sharing with loved ones or treating yourself to a hearty solo feast.

Beyond the food, Ling’s Chop Suey House embodies an unpretentious yet inviting ambiance. As Mr. William Sherman Senior thoughtfully noted, although the setting might not be flashy, it exudes a serene, authentic charm that makes you feel at home—perfect for intimate dinners or casual gatherings with friends and family.

Efficiency and friendliness shine through, especially with takeout service praised for its speed and welcoming staff. Michael Phillips’s favorite, lemon chicken served over cake noodles drenched in tangy lemon sauce, is a wonderful example of their flavorful yet affordable offerings—providing comfort and quality for under $10 even in sizable portions.

Whether you find yourself enjoying a table-served meal or selecting from their convenient steam table, you can expect consistently large portions and satisfying taste sensations. Maurice Brandt’s appreciation of the expansive fried rice portion and perfectly prepared won tons highlight the restaurant’s dedication to both quantity and quality, making Ling's a standout destination for Cantonese food in Hilo.

With classic beverages like Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, and Sierra Mist to round out your meal, Ling’s Chop Suey House is more than just a restaurant—it’s a cherished local gem where everyday dining transforms into a memorable experience filled with lively flavors, heartfelt service, and a welcoming spirit.

Great Chinese restaurant, personable service and as you can see by the photos consistently great grade meals there’s a steam table or you can order off the menu. It’s delightful atmosphere. It may not be much to look at, but it’s peaceful serene and it’s very authentic come with friends, family by yourself but just come here and realize this is a gem in Hilo.
